The review was commissioned by the board’s Audit and Risk Committee from a team with no connection to any implant maker. It found that the Register’s signals were issued promptly and that its clinical review was sound.
It also found that wearers in Kenya and the Philippines reported far less often than wearers in Japan, not because they were harmed less but because they had nowhere convenient to report. Its main recommendation was that aftercare clinics take reports in person.
The Foundation has accepted all nine recommendations. The review is published in full alongside the Register’s annual report.
